Jill Malat

Ms. Malat is an attorney at HKM’s Seattle office. Prior to joining HKM, Ms. Malat served as an Administrative Law Judge at the Washington State Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH), adjudicating appeals of unemployment benefits.

Ms. Malat has also worked for over three years as a Judge Pro Tem in municipal, district, and superior courts. Ms. Malat brings over a decade of litigation experience to HKM from her work as both a public defender and in private criminal defense.

After leaving criminal defense, Ms. Malat advocated for children and youth in the child welfare system and was instrumental in lobbying the Washington state legislature to create a right to counsel for children involved in the child welfare system.

Ms. Malat has taught law at Istanbul Bilgi University in Turkey.
