Attorneys to Answer Questions at Three Virtual Town Halls on Impacts for LGBTQ+ Workers and Other Private-Sector Employees
In response to the 2025 executive orders and agency actions that threaten employee rights, HKM Employment Attorneys LLP is stepping up to provide free legal aid to LGBTQ+ individuals and others who may be facing workplace discrimination.
Starting next week, the firm will host three virtual town halls to help equip private-sector workers nationwide with the legal knowledge needed to navigate and protect their rights in the workplace. Leading these efforts is nonbinary civil rights and employee rights attorney Hayden DePorter from HKM’s Denver office.
DePorter will be joined by Jason Rittereiser (Managing Partner of HKM’s Seattle and Portland offices), Claire Hunter (Managing Partner of HKM’s Denver office) as well as attorneys from HKM across the country to answer questions during the virtual town hall series.
“As we continue to face challenges to workplace equality, it’s important that individuals have access to the legal resources they need,” said DePorter, a longtime passionate advocate for LGBTQ+ equality who has fought tirelessly for workplace inclusion and the rights of LGBTQ+ workers. “Through these town halls and grassroots efforts, we hope to offer guidance, empowerment, and a space for connection. Despite recent executive orders attempting to restrict our rights and erase our identities, like the sun, we will always rise.”
“HKM stands with workers, families, and anyone who faces discrimination for being who they are or standing up for what’s right,” said Rittereiser, who led the firm’s efforts in 2018 to provide free legal support to employees who refused to comply with the Trump administration’s family separation policy. “We want people to know that despite what the administration may say, protections for LGBTQ+ workers still exist. You have rights. You are not alone, and we will fight for you.”
These free legal Q&A sessions will take place via Zoom webinar, allowing private-sector employees nationwide to participate. Participants can submit questions ahead of time to ensure they receive guidance on their specific concerns. The town halls are scheduled for February 26th, March 6th, and April 2nd.

In addition to the virtual town halls, DePorter will also host grassroots meetings in Colorado, providing an opportunity for local communities to come together, share information, and build support. These meetings aim to offer resources and create a sense of unity to empower LGBTQ+ individuals to understand and assert their rights in the workplace.
