A former Uber employee is suing the company for what she claims is a pay discrimination lawsuit. She is further alleging sexual harassment and racial discrimination against the company.
Ingrid Avendaño worked as an Uber driver for three years beginning in 2014. Avendaño’s lawsuit alleges that Uber did not do enough to address complaints concerning sexual harassment. This came a week after Uber announced it would no longer force passengers that suffered sexual assault at the hands of Uber drivers into arbitration. This was in response to a CNN exclusive outlining the policy.
Avendaño says that she reported an engineer who was working for Uber after he made unwanted and demeaning comments concerning women. She says that human resources did nothing to address or curtail the behavior. Later, Avendaño says the same individual told coworkers that she had slept with a manager and that was the only reason that she still had a job there. The individual was, however, fired after she made the second complaint.
