Raised in Czechoslovakia she is fluent in Czech, Slovak, and German, allowing her to serve diverse client populations with sensitivity and cultural awareness. As a member of the contingent faculty in the SUNY system, she experienced firsthand the financial and professional challenges faced by part-time workers, where the demands of the position often outstripped the compensation.
