Lis Wiehl is an author, TV Legal Analyst, and law professor who started her career at my favorite former law firm in Seattle. Wiehl says that recent court decisions are worrisome for supporters of women’s rights in the workplace and that sexism still exists. She cites the following as examples: (1) a $1 million verdict in a sexual harassment case that was overturned by an appellate court; (2) a Supreme Court pay discrimination decision requiring an EEOC employment discrimination charge to be filed within 180 days of the pay being set; (3) that women earn 73 cents for every dollar a man makes; (4) that the law labels pregnancy a “disability”; and (5) that health insurance plans are more likely to cover Viagra prescriptions than birth control pills. It appears that the speech was a reprise of the material in Wieh’s book, “The 51% Minority: How Women Still Are Not Equal and What You Can Do about It.”
