Shifa Alkhatib

Shifa Alkhatib is the managing partner of HKM Employment Attorneys’ Phoenix, Arizona office, where she represents employees across the full range of employment law matters. She advocates on behalf of workers in cases involving discrimination and retaliation of all kinds, failure to accommodate, equal pay claims, hostile work environment and harassment, wrongful termination, whistleblower claims, contractual disputes, restrictive covenants, and severance negotiations. She also handles claims arising under Arizona’s paid sick leave laws. Ms. Alkhatib represents clients against employers of every size before the EEOC and in both federal and state court.

Ms. Alkhatib approaches every case with a strategy tailored to her client’s individual goals. She is known for being direct and honest with her clients, giving them a realistic assessment of their case, and she stands beside them at every step of the process.

Prior to joining HKM, Ms. Alkhatib served as a Public Defender for Maricopa County, where she gained extensive jury trial experience. She graduated from the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University.  As a student, she worked with the Arizona Justice Project, the ACLU, and the Clark County Public Defender’s Office, and interned for an international NGO advocating for prisoners’ rights.

Ms. Alkhatib is fluent in Arabic, loves a good historical romance novel, and enjoys traveling in her free time.
