Ian Ith joined HKM’s Multistate Class Action Team after 13 years as a deputy prosecutor at the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, where he tried countless cases and served for a decade in the office’s renowned Appellate Unit. He fought scores of the toughest and highest-profile criminal cases through the Washington Court of Appeals and argued more than half a dozen times before the Supreme Court of Washington, prevailing at the state’s high court in every case.

Ian earned his colleague’s respect for his analytical legal skills and his ability to write and argue about complex legal concepts in a clear, compelling, down-to-earth way so that everyone, not only lawyers, could understand and appreciate the issues. He comes to HKM with a dedication to doing the right thing in every case and not giving up until justice is done.

Before transitioning to the law, Ian spent 15 years as a professional journalist, including 12 years at The Seattle Times as a reporter and assistant metro editor leading teams of reporters covering everything from major breaking news and high-profile criminal-justice issues to the healthcare industry and the environment.

His work anchoring breaking-news coverage of the 2002 D.C. sniper case made him a finalist for a Pulitzer Prize. He also contributed to a Times investigative series that was a finalist for a Pulitzer Prize, and received numerous other awards and recognition. Ian’s approach to the law mirrors his approach to journalism — being unafraid to stand up for what’s right and ensuring that every voice can be heard and that the system works for the people who need it most.

After hours, Ian enjoys spending time with his family, cooking, gardening, reading spy novels, and coaching and refereeing youth soccer.
