W. Anthony “Tony” Purcell brings over three decades of courtroom practice, training expertise, and a relentless commitment to justice. In 2025, Tony was awarded the prestigious Order of the Long Leaf Pine, one of North Carolina’s highest civilian honors, in recognition of his lifelong service and contribution to the community.

As a Charlotte native and seasoned attorney, Tony began his legal career as an Assistant Public Defender in Mecklenburg County, where he fought fiercely for those who had been marginalized or devalued by the system.

For more than 30 years, Tony stood beside clients facing high-stakes legal challenges, ranging from misdemeanors to serious felonies. His influence extended far beyond the courtroom. As the Misdemeanor Unit Supervisor, he trained over 165 attorneys, many of whom went on to become judges in both District and Superior court, capital and appellate defenders, teacher and professors, nonprofit leaders—and even a state senator.

Tony’s gift for mentorship and his reputation for fairness and excellence led to his involvement in helping shape statewide training for public defenders. He was also a regular presenter at the UNC School of Government. While employed as supervisor, he received Leadership Charlotte’s Unsung Hero Award which, “recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the community through dedicated service and leadership, often working quietly behind the scenes.”

Today, Tony brings that same passion for justice, problem-solving, and client-centered advocacy to employment law. Whether you’re facing wrongful termination, workplace discrimination, wage issues, retaliation, or contract disputes, Tony is here to ensure you’re not just heard—but powerfully represented.

If you’ve been treated unfairly at work, Tony is ready to stand by you.
