Sumlin served as the head football coach at the University of Houston from 2008 to 2011 and Texas A&M University from 2012 to 2017. Prior to that Sumlin spent seven years as an Assistant Coach and Offensive Coordinator for the University of Oklahoma. His coaching career includes holding coaching positions with programs in Purdue, Minnesota and Wyoming.
