Mary Olszewska is a fierce plaintiff’s advocate and trial lawyer at HKM. Mary started her career working at a boutique commercial litigation practice out of law school in Miami where she quickly learned that her heart was in cases that came into the firm involving sexual abuse or harassment. Thereafter, she moved to California and joined an all-female firm working exclusively in employment rights and sexual abuse. During the #MeToo movement, with countless abuse cases coming into the firm, there was an increase of legal changes and newfound awareness on the issues closest to her heart. She handled several matters against high-profile defendants, including sexual assault cases against Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey and attended the Weinstein Company bankruptcy committee hearings for the plaintiff sexual assault victims.
As a member of HKM, Mary continues her passion for employee rights and victims of sexualized misconduct, sexual harassment, wrongful termination, and retaliation. She is a determined, accomplished, and empathetic attorney when pursuing justice for her clients. She “wants the world to be better for everyone and knows these types of wrongs hurt not only individual clients but also the larger community.” Mary sees her clients as the “true champions” in legal cases and her practice style is deeply personal.
Mary is a member and Chair-Elect of the executive committee for the American Association of Justice’s Employment Section, was selected as the Southern California Super Lawyers Rising Star List (2016-2021), and was named one of Los Angeles Magazine’s Top Women Attorneys in Southern California (2016-2019).
After emigrating from Poland with her family in 1985, Mary grew up and spent her childhood in Minnesota. After moving away for college, law school, and young adulthood, she is now happily back in the Twin Cities with her husband (a documentary filmmaker), young daughter, and rescue pup, exploring Minneapolis’ farmer’s markets, art scene, and reuniting with family and friends in the area.
